I was home watching the original Winter Classic this weekend… Christmas Vacation. The scene at the beginning, when the Griswolds go to cut down their Christmas tree, reminded me of the holiday joy in college. Our junior year at UD we decided to “decorate” the house.
While I was on my Far East visit to see Felix in Japan, needless to say, we spent far too much time pouring sake down our throats. He was living there teaching conversational English to Japanese business people and when I was in town, his students wanted to take the round-eyed American to dinner.
Every year since 1980 my family has congregated in Ft. Wayne, Indiana (Ft. Fun) for Thanksgiving. I would guess that we are no weirder than any other family, we just have some stomach “issues.”

After high school The Donger had a short “rebellion period. A few months before he headed away to UD, his parents tried to crack the whip, lay down the law, get him in check and some other clichés. As you would expect… this didn’t go over too well.
